Navigating Grief with Energy Awareness

Updated: 50 minutes ago

Everything is Energy. Grief is energy. And energy moves.

When we’re navigating grief, we can feel like we’re stuck in a fog — heavy, lost, or overwhelmed. But what if, instead of viewing grief as something to “get over,” we met it as energy that wants to move through us?

In this post we gently explore how everything — including our thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations — carries a vibrational frequency. When we honour that grief is energy, we give ourselves permission to feel without judgment. To move, rest, cry, or create — without needing to fix anything.

Why See Grief as Energy?

Grief often comes with labels: sadness, anger, numbness. But beneath those words is vibrational resonance. Some days we feel constricted, other days spacious. Neither is wrong. Both are energy expressing itself.

Understanding the Vibrational Scale of Emotions

Dr. David R. Hawkins' Map of Consciousness.
Dr. David R. Hawkins' Map of Consciousness.

Dr. David R. Hawkins developed a model known as the Map of Consciousness, which proposes that emotions carry different vibrational frequencies — not in a scientific “hertz” sense, but metaphorically, to reflect their energetic impact on our mind and body.

According to Hawkins:

  • Low-frequency emotions, such as shame (20), fear (100), and grief (75), feel constrictive and draining. These often correspond with survival-mode responses and internalised pain.

  • As we move up the scale to emotions like courage (200) and acceptance (350), we shift into empowerment and openness.

  • High-frequency states, including love (500), joy (540), and peace (600), create spaciousness, resilience, and deep connection.

The scale is logarithmic — meaning each jump represents an exponential shift in energy.

It’s important to note that this model is a spiritual-emotional framework, not a clinical measurement tool. But many find it helpful in understanding how emotions affect their sense of wellbeing, and how energy can be transformed through awareness and healing.

Emotions are Energy in Motion. When we meet grief in this way, we create space for healing.

4 Gentle Ways to Work with the Energy of Grief

  1. Notice the energy in your body

Do you feel light or heavy? Is there stillness or restlessness? No pressure to change it — just noticing is powerful.

  2. Name what’s here

Try saying: “There’s sadness,” or “I feel raw today.” Naming can help energy move and bring a sense of self-compassion.

  3. Let it move

Energy can shift through physical movement, tears, creativity, or deep rest. Trust your body’s wisdom.

  4. Stay curious

Ask: What does my grief need today? A walk? A breath? A moment of stillness? Honour the answer, however small.

Grief is Transformation

Energy doesn’t vanish — it transforms. Your love, your memories, your sorrow — they are all shaping you. Grief is not the end of your story, it is just a part of your experience. You are not broken. You are becoming. And you are not alone.
